  1. Summary of Term 2 2021

The learning this term was centred around plant life, what a plant is; how plants are grown; what kinds of plant life there are; the parts of a plant; the importance of plant life in the survival of all living things.
Accordingly, while we also celebrated Matariki during the latter part of the term, we focussed on Tupuanuku, one of the stars of Matariki.
The whanau presented a wonderful play based on the story of Tane-nui-a-rangi who had climbed the heavens to collect the three baskets of knowledge from Io-matua-kore, the Supreme Being.
We learned many new waiata around wai and manu.
During the last week, we travelled by bus to Mangere Mountain, known also as Te Pane o Mataoho or Te Ara Pueru. While there, we were hosted by two staff members at the Mangere Mountain Education Centre, who took us on a guided tour around the mountain, showing us kumara pits, craters and the terraces of an old pa site which was once lived on by the Te Waiohua iwi.

Our Matariki Week was celebrated on the Thursday with a feast, much of which was prepared by our tamariki the previous day, and cooked by a loyal, supportive and hardworking army of parents and family on the Thursday morning. We invited Mr Swann and Mrs Patel from our Senior leadership Team to come and have this wonderful lunch with us, in the school hall. Whaea Meritiana was away on this day, due to a family event she needed to attend.

Room 16 learned about the measurement of length and how to use a centimetre ruler. We also looked at time and how it is measured using a clock (analogue as well as the digital clock), and the calendar, focussing on the concepts of day, week, month and year; seconds, minutes, hours.
